Issue #10

Pubs around Preston, and another local burger.

Welcome to The Prestonian, a fortnightly newsletter that brings you all the ins and outs of Preston and it's local surroundings.

We are a group of creatives who want to share our love and passion for the northern suburbs. We'll be covering a whole host of topics ranging from local news to food reviews to local sports. Everything Preston, always.

Meet our editor

Sezer is a creative writing wiz who specialises in putting words onto a page. He moved to Preston at the start of the year and fell in love with the suburb. You can see him walking his dog, Ramsay, up and down High Street.

He works as the social media marketing manager for Digital Basis, a Preston-based digital agency that has thrown its support behind The Prestonian.

What are we covering in this issue?

We're adding another burger to our Burgers of Preston series, a reminder of the upcoming Halloween event at Preston Market, and an exciting new Prestonian project for beer loving locals.

Burgers of Preston

Big Mouth - Beef Boy Burger

The sun was shining today in Preston. A beautiful Spring day sandwiched between some pretty average weather over the past few weeks. It was time to hit the pavement and see what burger crossed our path.

If you head down Murray Road, you'll come across Big Mouth, a fantastic little place serving up classic, American-style burgers and great coffee.

When you walk through the door, you're greeted with friendly service and a cute little diner aesthetic, with framed pictures on the wall of celebrity burger moments to admire while you wait for your order.

Big Mouth has plenty to offer, with a menu that ranges from burgers, coffee, and healthy bowls. Whatever you're in the mood for, you're bound to find it at Big Mouth.

As you know, we love to keep it simple here at The Prestonian, and the Beef Boy burger caught our eye. The Beef Boy is a super simple cheeseburger with an all-beef patty grilled to perfection, a slice of melty American cheese, fresh tomato, crisp onions, and a handful of pickles between a toasted brioche burger bun.

The burger was an absolute winner for us, especially at its price point of $10. You'd be hard-pressed to find better value for money in Preston for a burger. Pair it with a serving of chips on the side for an extra $5, and you're set.

If you haven't checked out Big Mouth on Murray Road yet, this is your call to action. Pop in and enjoy a wonderful experience from start to finish.

We can't wait to go back to Big Mouth to try the other options on the menu!

Victorian State Elections 2022

VAHPA

Fast approaching is the State Election for the next Parliament of Victoria.

We take voting very seriously here at The Prestonian and love the excitement in the air around election time.

We have a lot of fantastic local politicians that are campaigning at the moment to bring change and improvements to the Darebin area. But sometimes the campaigns don't always reach everybody.

This can be because of many different reasons. Sometimes people don't follow the local MPs. Sometimes people don't keep up with the local news, and sometimes people don't care.

We'd like to use our platform to speak to some local MPs and hear what they're campaigning for and what change they plan to bring if elected..

We're reaching out to anyone who may have a link to any local MPs that would be interested in having a chat with The Prestonian to shed some light on their upcoming campaign, and give us an idea of the person running for the seat.

Shoot us an email, or send us a dm on Instagram.

Halloween at Preston Market

Preston Market

Don't forget. The Preston Market is hosting an after-school Halloween event for all ages to celebrate the spooky season.

The annual trader trick or treat is back for another instalment with plenty of things to see and do. With spooky characters roving around the market, games like broomstick limbo, creatures, devil dance, dress the mummy, a spooky disco for the dancing zombie within us ('cause this is thriller), and scratch lantern making for the kids!

Get down to the Preston Market on the 28th at 3.30pm for all the fun!

When: Friday October 28th - 3.30pm to 5.30pm

Prestonian Pubs and Breweries

With summer fast approaching, the beer season is upon us.

Preston and its surrounds are home to heaps of amazing, pubs, bars, and breweries. We have our favourites and are looking forward to popping in on a hot day for an ice-cold beer.

We started thinking about why there isn't a directory for the local area of all the pubs, bars, and breweries. There's one for all the spots you can grab a drink of water, so why not one for where you can get a beer on a hot day?

We've put on our creative caps and are now working on a map of all the spots you can stop off to grab a drink. It'll act as your companion for pub crawls, get-together drinks, or simply somewhere to stop off after a long day for much-needed refreshment.

We'll be compiling a list of places from Northcote to Reservoir and everywhere in-between. But we don't just want our choices on there, so we're opening up the recommendations to our readers. Let us know where your favourite spots are in the local area so we can add them for everyone to try and enjoy.

Shoot us an email, or dm us on Instagram. We'd love to hear from you!
