Issue #3
Workshops and festivals.
Welcome to The Prestonian, a fortnightly newsletter that brings you all the ins and outs of Preston and its local surroundings.
We are a group of creatives who want to share our love and passion for the northern suburbs. We'll be covering a whole host of topics ranging from local news to food reviews to local sports. Everything Preston, always.
Meet our editor
Sezer is a creative writing wiz who specialises in putting words onto a page. He moved to Preston at the start of the year and fell in love with the suburb. You can see him walking his dog, Ramsay, up and down High Street.
He works as the social media marketing manager for Digital Basis, a Preston-based digital agency that has thrown its support behind The Prestonian.

Zine Workshop for Youth
Darebin Libraries
Local zine maker, illustrator and graphic designer Tonia Composto will be running this free workshop at the Reservoir library and taking a deep dive into the world of zines!
The workshop has been designed for young people from ages 12 to 25 and Tonia will show participants how to put together a zine that explores passion, creativity and experiences.
Local events like these are a great initiative and more of them will be provided if enough interest is shown by the community.

The Prestonian x Local Artists
From the very first moment we had the idea to start up The Prestonian, we wanted to create something that could bring together community and showcase more and more people in the area through their stories and their businesses. But why stop at just businesses?
As creatives we know how hard it can be to get your work out there, there are always obstacles and criteria that needs to be met to get featured in a publication.
We want to provide local artists in the Darebin area a space to showcase their work. Whether you're a photographer, a writer, a designer or anything in-between, we'd love to see what our talented friends and neighbours come up with for their art.
The only thing we ask is that the art be considered safe for work (sfw), this will allow for greater reach without any censoring needed on our end.
If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of or you know someone who would love to share their work with the community then send us an email at [email protected].
We can't wait to see what the creatives of Darebin are up to!

Local Food Review
Silk Thai
Preston having such a big multi-cultural population is a blessing for those of us who like to eat our way around the world.
On Plenty Road you'll find Silk Thai, a cosy little Thai restaurant serving up tasty homestyle dishes that not only taste great but fill you right up. Satisfaction is the key at Silk Thai.
We ordered a serve of the roti bread with peanut sauce, the massaman chicken curry and the chilli beef. Each plate was fantastic, a perfect blend of meats, vegetables and spices that really bring the authentic Thai flavours to your tastebuds.
The service is great and the food comes out promptly, you are given a warm place to eat an authentic Thai meal right here in Preston.
Check out Silk Thai at 495 Plenty Rd, Preston, Wednesday to Sunday from 5.30pm.
